Overview

Blue Chip Auto Glass has been providing exceptional auto glass services to our valley’s residents since 2001.  We offer in-shop service near I-17/Bell in Phoenix and at our new location near Power/60 in Mesa.  My goal with Blue Chip Auto Glass has always been to fill a void in the auto glass industry created by the typical auto glass company with questionable business practices, deceptive giveaways, and mediocre service.  I’ve worked most of my life in customer service and find great satisfaction offering an exceptional product that makes customers want to talk about us in a good way.  Before I got into the auto glass business, I worked for The Vanguard Group teaching customers about mutual funds.  I loved the company’s philosophy of low expense ratios to its customers, a focus on a quality and a strategy of customer retention.  These strategies have served them well, allowing Vanguard to enjoy continued growth year over year.  These approaches also helped me as I was able to carry over many of the principles and workflows that I learned at this job to my auto glass company.

 

Our Beginnings with Tesla

Although our team enjoys all vehicle makes and models, we especially enjoy working on Tesla products.  Our relationship with Tesla started about 8 years ago when Tesla’s service center was just a single shop in the Deer Valley Airpark.  The Tesla service manager at the time found us on Yelp and based on our reviews, asked us to help with some auto glass warranty work.  The base model windshields had a tooling issue and would crack spontaneously in the middle drivers’ side of the glass.  Tesla provided us with new replacement windshields, and we installed them for their customers.  Since then, 3 different versions of that Model S windshield have been developed and we have become familiar with all of them.  We also have several years of experience installing all Model 3, Model Y, Model X, and Roadster glass.  Today most of our daily volume consists of installing Model 3 and Model Y windshields.  We don’t just install windshields though.  We work on door glass, sunroofs and backglass.

 

Our Journey with Tesla

As Tesla’s popularity continued to grow in the valley, so did the amount of work we did for them.  Early on Tesla’s Service Department would ask for help with warranty situations and the occasional help with labor, but as the number of Tesla owners skyrocketed, they ultimately asked if we would be interested in allowing them to send some of their customers to us.  I was obviously excited by the opportunity and am still just as enthusiastic today as I was day 1.  Between the Tesla customers that we have developed repeat business relationships with, and the regular jobs that Tesla continues to refer for service, we often see around 100 Tesla customers a week.  Word-of-mouth continues to be our main source of new business and is the reason that Carvana and many of the other dealerships around town use us as their go-to for Tesla auto glass service.

 

Supply Chain Issues

Early on working with Tesla, our biggest challenge was keeping windshields in stock.  Sometimes we had openings in our schedule to offer customers service but wouldn’t have the glass to complete the work.  Eventually we were put into touch with a few key Tesla parts managers around town who helped us to place bulk orders for the windshields that we most needed.  Today we are thankfully allowed to bulk order windshields from Tesla directly.  We order our parts in quantities of 50 – 100 and they are shipped directly to our facility on Bell Road.  We recently took over 3000 sq/ft of space on Bell Road and dedicated it to the storage of Tesla glass.  Our commitment to our customers is that we will always have their glass part in stock.  In addition, we keep commonly needed parts that we sometimes find missing in Tesla’s due to a previous glass company’s faulty installation.  We acknowledge that accidents can happen, so we keep any parts that have the potential to be damaged during the installation process.  These include clips, plugs, cowls, camera covers and glare shields.

 

Some Things that Set us Apart

As a Tesla Model 3 owner who drives mine every day, I feel confident that at the very least, we are one of the top installers of Tesla Windshields in the valley.  Here are a few of the benefits to working with us:

–        The fact that we keep multiples of every Tesla glass part available to be ordered ensures that you, the Tesla owner, can expect a quick turn-around on your installation request.

–        We have Tesla chargers installed and available at our facilities.  Are you passing through town and need an emergency Model 3 windshield installation but are low on charge?  We can charge your Tesla while we install your glass and there is never a cost to you.

–        At Blue Chip Auto Glass all first chip repairs per visit are free for Tesla customers.  We want to help you keep as much life in your windshield as possible.

–        We have training from Tesla Certified technicians and keep in touch with them regularly when we need to be updated on recent changes.

–        We have a direct channel of communication to request firmware updates from Tesla.  Sometimes after a windshield installation a feature on your Tesla may not be responding as it should.  Instead of having to reach out to Tesla to request an update to resolve the issue, we can do it for you!

–        We can work with your tint company to have your windshield pre-tinted so that you don’t have to have it re-tinted after installation.

–        We handle your insurance claims and pre-authorizations.

–        We have a strong relationship with Tesla Insurance.

–        Many other auto glass companies use us as a resource when it comes to assistance with Tesla glass installation questions and trouble shooting.  We feel like there is plenty of business to go around and are happy to share our knowledge with other glass companies.

–        We want to make you happy and will do everything on our power to make sure that you have a positive experience.  If we make a mistake, we will fix it.

Keeping Up With Changes/ADAS Recalibrations

We recently were given the opportunity to purchase software from Tesla that would allow us to perform recalibration services on most Tesla vehicles.  We made it a priority to learn everything that we could about the recalibration process specific to Tesla’s and what we needed to do to be compliant in the State of Arizona, follow insurance company mandates and most importantly follow the recalibration steps laid out in the Tesla Service Manual written by their engineers.  We had already been performing ADAS recalibrations on all other makes and models but performing Tesla recalibrations required becoming familiar with a whole new platform.  To be sure we completely understood the process our team of technicians spent several hours of training with a representative from the Scottsdale Tesla Service Center who was able immediately fine tune our process.  Having since completed hundreds of Tesla camera calibrations, we are confident that we have the experience and tools necessary to ensure that each Tesla customer that we come into contact will leave with a camera that has been accurately and correctly recalibrated.  We are committed to your safety.

    When I first came in, I was deciding whether to replace my cracked windshield through insurance or pay out of pocket. Based on my own experience, I know that when you go through insurance, there’s about a 99% chance the windshield replacement will show up on your Carfax. I specifically asked the front desk if paying out of pocket would prevent the replacement from being reported to Carfax. I was told, “We never add our work to Carfax.” Based on that, I chose to pay out of pocket to avoid a windshield replacement showing up on my vehicle history. This wasn’t a serious accident or a major mechanical or electrical issue to have it in CarFax history. At my appointment, I asked them to check the glass for distortion or damage before installation. They said it was fine. After installation, I immediately noticed distortion in the center. The installer agreed and offered to replace it. Later, I decided not to go through another replacement to save time, and they gave me a $70 discount. When I got home and saw the windshield in bright sunlight, I noticed significant scratches along the driver’s side that weren’t visible at first. It looks like the scratches may have occurred during transportation. I paid about $700 for glass with distortion and scratches. To make matters worse, I later checked my Carfax and saw that the windshield replacement was reported anyway. If I had known that, I would have used my insurance and saved $700. That specific thing made me to change my mind and leave this feedback. I’m leaving this review due to the misleading information from the front desk and the poor quality control on the installation. UPDATE for future customers: Answer on “As far as Carfax goes, we have no affiliation with Carfax and wouldn't know how to report a windshield replacement to them if we wanted to, so we can't really comment there”. My answer: If you truly had nothing to do with reporting the windshield replacement to Carfax, your shop’s name “Blue Chip Auto Glass” would not appear in my vehicle’s Carfax history. Or maybe you think that aliens somehow filed a report about a windshield replacement at your service center?

    One of the better priced places. They're professional and quick too. The windshield didn't have any distortion despite being non-OEM too. They even reattached my dashcam and vacuumed my carpets.

    Kelly was awesome and super helpful! I wish more companies and workers cared more and were more helpful. That’s the way Kelly was, super helpful and caring to my situation with my windshield and software issue i was having. He helped me fix my issue right away with patience and kindness.     Honest work. Blue Chip Auto Glass found rust after removing my windshield and went above and beyond to remove and treated the rust before installing the windshield. Wasn't even on the bill for the extra work needed. The owner here takes very good care of his customers.

    I had a great experience. It's never fun when you get a chip on your windshield. I spoke to Vivian and she was able to schedule me the same day. The office/waiting lobby atmosphere is very friendly. Now, let's talk about prices. The other major company in town is outrageously high. You are better off calling Blue Chip Auto Glass before you make an appointment anywhere else!
